Xylobati sta Koufonisia — Floweriest (Koufonisia)
About us
Xylobati sta Koufonisia is the flower shop and event-styling studio of Georgia Leontiou, based on Ano Koufonisi - the inhabited main island of Koufonisia, in the Small Cyclades. She covers weddings, baptisms and events end to end - the bouquet, the church, the ceremony setting and the reception tables - and holds a 5.0 rating across 11 Google reviews.
Koufonisia grows no flowers and has no wholesale market, so every stem arrives by ferry. Georgia watches the marine forecast and brings her flowers over early whenever a sailing ban (απαγορευτικό) looks likely. Couples single this out in their reviews: in one week described by a client, a different company's wedding on the island was left with no church decoration at all because of a ban, while hers went ahead as planned. On a small island, that logistical discipline is the whole difference between a decorated ceremony and an empty one.
Her studio also makes handmade souvenirs and jewellery from local driftwood, sea shells, sea urchins and sea stones - so favours and bomboniere can genuinely come from the island the wedding happens on.
Wedding flowers and styling services
- Bridal bouquets and bomboniere - bouquets, buttonholes and favours, frequently built around local bougainvillea and gypsophila
- Church and chapel decoration - including the hilltop Panagia chapel on Kato Koufonisi, reached by boat, and the parish church of Agios Georgios in Chora
- Ceremony styling - aisles, entrances, candles and petal baskets for open-air and chapel ceremonies
- Reception and table styling - table florals and decorative details at island tavernas and venues
- Yacht and boat floral styling - arrangements set up on board for maritime celebrations
- Baptism decoration - full styling for christenings alongside weddings
- Handmade island favours - driftwood, shell, sea-urchin and sea-stone pieces made on Koufonisia
Best Koufonisia use
Book Georgia when the wedding actually happens on Koufonisia and the flowers have to survive a ferry crossing to get there. She is the island's resident florist rather than a mainland supplier shipping in, which matters for setup, last-minute changes and weather calls. She also decorates the Agios Georgios parish church through the year, so she works these buildings routinely rather than once a season.
Ceremony and reception locations
Weddings she has styled take place at the Panagia chapel on Kato Koufonisi - a hilltop chapel above the harbour that guests reach by boat - and around Chora on Ano Koufonisi. Reviews and her own posts reference receptions at island venues including Kapetan Nikolas, with Neo Remezzo and Stou Lolou also operating on the island.
If the ceremony is on Kato Koufonisi, budget for the boat transfer of both guests and flowers, and agree the setup window before the first crossing.
Planning notes for couples
- Book early for July and August - this is a small island and peak season is dense
- Allow buffer days before the wedding so flowers can be ferried in ahead of possible sailing bans
- Orders from the mainland work - she has fulfilled arrangements ordered by phone from Thessaloniki
- Ask about handmade favours early, since driftwood and sea-stone pieces are made by hand rather than stocked
